Abstract

Bloom taxonomy, which has been used effectively in all areas of education since the middle of the 19th century, has been updated due to the changing paradigms of education and criticisms from the beginning of the 21st century. The formal and contextual changes have been quite apparent in the taxonomy and the dimension of knowledge has been added as a dimension of taxonomy. Within the scope of this study, the test items prepared by Turkish language teachers were evaluated with respect to the categories in the renewed Bloom Taxonomy. The study was designed as descriptive level and 12 teachers from three different provinces were reached and the tests that were prepared by them for assessing the students’ learning levels. From the tests, 527 items were obtained and the items were analyzed by using descriptive analysis method. The investigations were conducted by using an evaluation form developed by the researcher. In order to check reliability, inter-rater consistency was examined and consistency coefficient was calculated. The findings were accordant with the related studies and it was concluded that the majority of teacher-made test items are based on low order thinking skills that hinders the development of students' high-level thinking skills. Therefore, based on the results of this study it is concluded that in order to develop students’ high order thinking levels, teachers might be motivated to prepare test items assessing these skills.
