Abstract
Retained surgical material (Gossypiboma) is a rare complication of surgery. Although surgically retained materials is commonly reported in the abdominal cavity, it may be seen in different sites of the body. We herein report a case of surgically retained intrathoracic material in a woman who had hiatal hernia surgery one year ago. She was admitted to our outpatient clinic with a shortness of breath and palpitation. We detected the increased of mitral valve gradient and mitral regurgitation due to a retained surgical material

Unutulan cerrahi malzeme (Gossipiboma) cerrahinin nadir bir komplikasyonudur. Cerrahi olarak unutulan malzemeler genellikle abdominal kavitede bildirilmişse de, vücudun birçok farklı bölgesinde de görülebilir. Biz burada bir yıl önce hiatal herni operasyonu geçiren bir bayan hastada cerrahi olarak unutulan toraks içi materyal vakasını sunduk. Hasta nefes darlığı ve çarpıntı şikayeti ile polikliniğimize kabul edildi. Bu hastada unutulan cerrahi malzemeye bağlı gelişen mitral kapak gradient artışı ve mitral yetmezlik saptadık
