Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the results and complications of phacoemulsification in monocular patients. Materials and Methods: 29 eyes of 29 patients treated with phacoemulsification and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation were evaluated retrospectively between June 2007-March 2010. Patients’ demographic characteristics, reasons for being monocular eyes, and associated pathologies, additional surgeries, preoperative and postoperative visual acuities and com- plications were evaluated. Results: The mean age of the patients was 74.9±10.5 (39-90) years. The mean follow-up period was 10.7±3.8 months. The mean preoperative and postoperative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was found as 1.06±0.38 LogMAR and 0.37±0.45 LogMAR respectively. (p<0.05). The mean preoperative and postoperative IOP was 15.0±3.5 mmHg and 13.5±2.9 mmHg respectively (p<0.05). Opening the posterior capsule and vitreous loss in 1 patient, zonular dialysis in 1 patient, intraocular lens haptic breakage occurred during the placement in 1 patient were seen as complication. During the follow-up period: posterior capsule opacification (2 patients) , cystoid macular edema (1 patient) were developed. Conclusion: Phacoemulsification for the cataract surgery in monocular patients is a high risk procedure, however the re- sults were satisfactory.

Özet

Amaç: Tek gözlü hastaların fakoemülsifikasyonla katarakt cerrahisi sonuçları değerlendirmek. Gereç ve Yöntem: Haziran 2007-Mart 2010 tarihleri arasında fakoemülsifikasyon cerrahisi ve göz içi lensi (GİL) implan- tasyonu yapılan 29 hastanın 29 tek gözü geriye dönük incelendi. Olgular demografik özellikleri, tek gözlü olma nedenleri, ameliyat edilen gözlerinde eşlik eden patolojiler, ilave ameliyatlar, ameliyat öncesi ve ameliyat sonrası son muayenedeki görme keskinlikleri ve göz içi basınçları, karşılaşılan komplikasyonlar yönünden değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Olguların yaş ortalaması 74.9±10.5 (39-90) yıldı. Ortalama takip süresi 10.7±3.8 ay idi. Ameliyat öncesi orta- lama en iyi düzeltilmiş görme keskinliği (EİDGK) 1.06±0.38 LogMAR iken ameliyat sonrası EİDGK 0.37±0.45 LogMAR olarak bulundu (p<0.05). Ameliyat öncesi ortalama GİB 15±3.5 mmHg, ameliyat sonrası GİB ise 13.5±2.9 mmHg (p<0.05). Ameliyat esnasında 1 hastada arka kapsül açıklığı ve vitreus kaybı, 1 hastada sınırlı zonül diyalizi, 1 hastada göz içi mer- ceğinde yerleştirilmesi esnasında haptik kopması meydana geldi. Takip süresi boyunca 2 hastada arka kapsül kesafeti, 1 hastada kistoid maküla ödemi gelişti. Sonuç: Tek gözlü hastalarda fakoemülsifikasyonla katarakt cerrahisi, komplikasyonları açısından oldukça riskli bir tedavi olmakla birlikte, sonuçlarının tatmin edici olduğu görüldü.
