Abstract

Mandible reconstruction due to tumor, trauma or another etiologic factors are one of the challenging problems in head and neck surgery. The main goals of the reconstruction are to provide best results functionally and cosmetically. Between 1998 and 2003, 20 patients, with 14 have composite oromandibuler defects and 6 have only bone defects underwent mandible reconstruction in our clinic. The reconstructions were performed with reconstruction plate, autografts, allograft, vascularised iliac crest flap, vascularised fibula flap and “Kirschner” wire. In this article the cosmetic and functional problems of 20 patients are discussed and some solution choices are presented.
