Abstract

The purpose of this study is to cluster geographical regions according to the R&D potential in Turkey. Data used in the study includes research & development ex- penditures, number of employees working for R&D activities, number of peop- le having undergraduate and/or postgraduate degree and number of patent and utility model applications for NUTS1 regions. The data are analyzed with hierarc- hical clustering and multi dimensional scaling analysis. Results show that, Istan- bul has the highest R&D potential. East Marmara, West Anatolia, Aegeane and Mediterranean regions follow the Istanbul according to the R&D potential res- pectively.
