Abstract

After the Great Depression in 1929, an economic cooperation process was experienced in order to ensure a healthy functioning of the financial system in the global sense and accordingly, the International Monetary Fund was established. Since its establishment until today, the Fund has been actively providing service to the member countries in economic terms. In its global macroeconomic outlook reports, the International Monetary Fund evaluates the countries of the world based on a classification prepared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on the basis of nineteen regional groups. In this study, these regional groups prepared by the International Monetary Fund were examined in terms of various macroeconomic indicators via Clustering Analysis and thus, inferences were made concerning the similarities and differentiating aspects of the regional groups in terms of their economic outlook.
