Abstract

This research is a scale development and implementation study which aims to explore the occupational image of teaching. The aim of this research was to develop a valid and reliable scale, and to reveal the occupational image of teaching based on the teachers’ views via this scale. The scale called “the occupational image scale of teaching” consists of five dimensions and 28 items. The scale explains the 54,9 % of the total variance and the Cranbach Alpha of the scale is ,813. The results of the final implementation of the scale in Eskişehir showed that the image of the teaching occupation is at moderate level. Although the occupational image is at a good level in the factors, “professional and personal characteristics”, “occupational attraction” and “status”, it is at low level in the factors “social perception” and “media”. Based on these results, it is suggested to carry out practices to enhance the image of the occupation and the social perception.
