Abstract

The resistance to antibiotics in 83 Streptococcus pneumoniae strains isolated between October 2004 - December 2006 was investigated by Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method. The minimal inhibitor concentration values of penicillin in oxacillin-resistant strains detected by disk diffusion method were determined by E-test. Sixtyfour percent of 83 strains were susceptible, 35 % were low-level resistant and 1 % were high-level resistant to penicilin. While there was no resistance to vancomycin, the resistance rates of the isolates to erythromycin, tetracycline and levofloxacin were 35 %, 20 % and 4 % (included intermediate strains), respectively. Due to the low resistance, levofloxacin may be considered as a good choice for infections by penicillin-resistant strains.

Özet

Ekim 2004-Aralık 2006 tarihleri arasında çeşitli klinik örneklerden izole edilen 83 Streptococcus pneumoniae kökeninin antibiyotik direnci Kirby-Bauer disk difüzyon yöntemi ile araştırılmış, disk difüzyon yöntemi ile oksasiline direnç saptanan kökenlerin E-test yöntemi ile penisilin için minimal inhibitör konsantrasyon değerleri saptanmıştır. Kökenlerin % 64’ü penisiline duyarlı, % 35’i düşük düzeyde dirençli, % 1’i yüksek düzeyde dirençli bulunmuştur. Test edilen kökenlerde vankomisine direnç saptanmazken, orta derecede duyarlılar dahil eritromisine % 35, tetrasikline % 20, levofloksasine % 4 oranında direnç saptanmıştır. Pnömokok suşlarında penisiline düşük düzeyde dirençli olanların oranı yüksek bulunmuştur. Levofloksasinin, düşük direnç oranı nedeniyle, penisiline dirençli kökenlerle olan infeksiyonların tedavisinde iyi bir seçenek olabileceği düşünülmüştür.
