Abstract

Percutaneus central venous catheterization is routinely used in evaluation of critical and chronic cases. Major complications such as pneumothorax, hemothorax, cardiac tamponade during and after surgery between 0 to 60 days occur in 11 % of cases. In our case; 6 year old female patient with multiple trauma was operated. Malposition of the internal juguler vein catheter was suspected due to decrease in saturations after extubation and confirmed by means of chest x-ray postoperatively. Consequetly right hemothorax and pleural effusion were detected. Early recognication of the pathology in the operation room, prevented the mortality but this complication resulted in admission to ICU. As a conclusion; it should be kept in mind that, some fatal complications like hemothorax may occur in central catheter inserted in children.
