Abstract

This study examines the opportunities and challenges facing Turkish hotel equipment exporters in the Saudi Arabian market through the lens of the cultural economy and Institutional Theory. Rather than relying solely on trade statistics, the research combines primary field data with macroeconomic, sectoral, logistical, and risk analyses to develop a multi-tiered strategic framework for Turkish exporters within the context of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The findings indicate that Türkiye’s competitive advantage extends beyond cost-based competition with East Asian suppliers and includes faster logistics, delivery reliability, and geopolitical flexibility. The integration of the Iraq transit corridor into the TIR system further strengthens Türkiye’s role as a strategically reliable supplier for Saudi projects with strict completion deadlines. From a cultural economy perspective, the study highlights the importance of shared cultural and religious values in building trust and strengthening market integration. Turkish manufacturers can leverage their cultural proximity by adapting products to Saudi preferences for luxury, prestige, and visual appeal, while shared food cultures create particular opportunities in industrial kitchen equipment, including machinery for traditional desserts. The study argues that sustainable success in the Saudi market requires Turkish firms to move beyond transactional and short-term export strategies toward long-term institutional partnerships. Such integration depends not only on regulatory compliance and logistical capabilities but also on the effective use of cultural proximity as a source of competitive advantage and soft power.
