Abstract

Over the past two decades, the number of doctoral theses in Türkiye that place prosopography and group biography at the centre of their research has increased markedly. This article examines doctoral theses dated 2005–2023, identified through a documented search protocol in the National Thesis Center of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), that explicitly state their use of the prosopographical method in their titles or abstracts. Each thesis was assessed using a common template based on six predefined criteria: research topic and study population, methodological positioning, database and software use, source diversity, conceptual consistency, and depth of prosopographical analysis. However, limited engagement with international scholarship in methodological discussions, infrequent reporting of databases and analytical tools, and the replacement of group-level analysis with compilations of individual biographies in some theses suggest that prosopography in Türkiye remains in a phase of institutionalisation.
