Abstract

Introduction and Aim: This study aimed to investigate the frequency of isolated antiHBc-IgG positivity in immunosuppressed patients. Material and Method: Between January 2020 and October 2022, 100 patients who underwent hepatitis B virus (HBV) screening for HBsAg, antiHBc-IgG, and anti-HBs, and were indicated for oral antiviral prophylaxis treatment, were icluded in the study. Results: Of the patients included in the study, 58 (58%) were male, with an average age of 47.9 ± 13.8 years (19-76 years). Seven patients had chronic HBV infection with HBsAg and antiHBs-IgG positivity, 77 patients had recovered (naturally acquired) HBV infection with negative HBsAg, positive antiHBc-IgG, and antiHBs positivity, while 16 patients showed isolated antiHBc-IgG positivity. Conclusion: The frequency of isolated anti-HBc-IgG positivity in patients scheduled for immunosuppressive therapy is quite significant, at one in sixteen patients. In addition to HBsAg and anti-HBs, anti-HBc-IgG should also be tested in patients scheduled for immunosuppressive therapy.
