Abstract

This study examines the transformative effects of AI on humans and society within a historical and philosophical framework. While analyzing both optimistic and pessimistic perspectives on AI, the study emphasizes the importance of understanding how technology shapes human consciousness. The study draws on the media theories of Marshall McLuhan and Luciano Floridi to understand the effects of AI. McLuhan's "the medium is the message" thesis is used to explain how technology reshapes human senses and social structure independently of its content, while Floridi's concepts of "Fourth Revolution," "Infosphere," and "Onlife" define the new existential condition where digital and physical realities intertwine. The study highlights the potential risks of technology by presenting current research on the negative side effects of AI use, such as "cognitive laziness," "cognitive debt," mental health issues, "digital divide," and "echo chambers." In response to these risks, the study argues that the solution lies in transforming educational approaches.
