Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to examine whether place identity, post-traumatic stress symptoms, and psychological well-being differ according to age and gender among adults exposed to the earthquakes that occurred on February 6 and February 20, 2023, and subsequent aftershocks. Method: The study included 408 adults (200 women, 208 men) exposed to the earthquakes. Data were collected face-to-face using a sociodemographic information form, the Place Identity Scale, the PERMA Scale, and the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5. Results: Post-traumatic stress symptoms differed by age, with higher scores in the 26–43 group than in the 52+ group. Place identity also differed by age. Post-traumatic stress symptoms were negatively correlated with psychological well-being. The direct effect on psychological well-being was significant and negative, but the indirect effect through place identity was not significant. Conclusion: The findings indicate that post-traumatic stress symptoms are associated with lower psychological well-being, whereas place identity did not significantly mediate this relationship.
