Abstract

Stock indices are mission-critical benchmark indicators in portfolio management, derivatives, ETFs, and market surveillance; therefore, an index production platform must satisfy correctness, reproducibility, low latency, and high availability simultaneously. In Borsa Istanbul’s current Index Calculation System (ICSII), remains coupled to the Oracle database layer. As the number of indices and the volume of market data increase, this design creates database I/O pressure, scalability constraints, maintenance complexity, and licensing cost. This paper presents the architecture, system model, findings for the system. BEYS adopts a message-driven architecture built on a GAL-based Core Message Stream, Java-based services, an SQL data layer, and a Histstore component. The design reduces database dependency on the critical computation path, improve module-level observability, availability, and enable controlled transition by parallel runs with the legacy system. Benchmarks show, under a 1000-constituent workload, warmup reduced BigDecimal tick-processing time from 1-2 ms to 0–1 ms, while sustainable per-second capacity reached from 500 indices to 1000 in the BigDecimal configuration and about 1500 in the Double configuration. The results also indicate that the bottleneck can shift from ic_idxcalc to ic_idxmgr and that startup behavior under large datasets becomes a scaling constraint. Overall, the study shows that BEYS offers a strong re-architecture direction for exchange-scale real-time index production and provides a methodological basis for end-to-end SLA validation.
