Abstract
Today, the concept of sustainability stands out as a multidimensional approach that encompasses not only environmental awareness but also the economic and social responsibilities of enterprises. In this context, the auditing profession is being reshaped from a sustainability perspective. Sustainability auditing refers to the assurance process of corporate activities that cover environmental, social, and governance (ESG) dimensions. In Türkiye, with the legislation published in the Official Gazette on December 29, 2023, sustainability reporting and auditing have become mandatory for companies that exceed certain threshold values. In line with these developments, the Public Oversight Authority (KGK) has launched a new licensing process for sustainability auditors. This review article addresses the concept of sustainability auditing in the context of national and international regulations, evaluates relevant standards and practices, and offers insights into the future evolution of this profession. The study aims to provide a holistic perspective on sustainability auditing.
Özet
Günümüzde sürdürülebilirlik kavramı, yalnızca çevresel duyarlılık değil; aynı zamanda işletmelerin ekonomik ve sosyal sorumluluklarını da kapsayan çok yönlü bir yaklaşım olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu bağlamda, denetim mesleği de sürdürülebilirlik perspektifinden yeniden şekillenmektedir. Sürdürülebilirlik denetçiliği, şirketlerin çevresel, sosyal ve yönetişim (ESG) boyutlarını içeren faaliyetlerinin güvence altına alınması sürecidir. Türkiye’de 29 Aralık 2023 tarihinde Resmî Gazete’de yayımlanan mevzuat ile birlikte belirli eşik değerleri aşan şirketler için sürdürülebilirlik raporlaması ve denetimi zorunlu hâle gelmiştir. Bu gelişmeler doğrultusunda Kamu Gözetimi Kurumu (KGK) sürdürülebilirlik denetçiliğine yönelik yeni lisanslama sürecini başlatmıştır. Bu derleme çalışmasında sürdürülebilirlik denetçiliği kavramı, ulusal ve uluslararası düzenlemeler bağlamında ele alınmakta; ilgili standartlar ve uygulamalar değerlendirilmekte; gelecekte bu mesleğin nasıl evrileceğine ilişkin bir bakış sunulmaktadır. Çalışma, sürdürülebilirlik denetçiliği konusuna bütüncül bir yaklaşım getirmeyi amaçlamaktadır.
