Abstract

Today, the state of aging of the population is experienced all over the world, even if it is at different levels from country to country. This situation leads many institutions at the national and local level, notably international organizations, to carry out studies that produce solutions to the differentiating individual, spatial and socio-economic needs of the aging population. The focus of these studies is the creation of active aging policies aimed at health, safety and participation in order to improve the quality of life of elderly individuals. The World Health Organization (WHO), one of these international organizations, has determined the basic principles that age-friendly cities should have with the "Age-Friendly Cities and Communities" initiative, which is shaped within the framework of active aging policies. In this study, it is aimed to address these basic principles determined by WHO from the point of view of the occupational discipline of urban planning. It is thought that this approach will both contribute to the literature and will be a guiding guide for local policy makers in particular for their own cities.
