Abstract

Breast cancer, the most common type of cancer in women worldwide, offers higher survival rates with early diagnosis and effective treatment. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between the level of health literacy, fear of breast cancer and perception of fatalism in women. The study was designed as a descriptive and correlational study. The study was carried out with a survey conducted through Google Forms and shared on online platforms. The data of the study were collected with ‘Personal Information Form’, ‘Health Literacy Scale’, ‘Breast Cancer Fear Scale’ and ‘Breast Cancer Fatalism Scale’. The mean age of the women who participated in the study (n=960) was 26.28±9.36. The mean total score of the Health Literacy Scale was 107.02±15.18, the mean total score of the Breast Cancer Fear Scale was 27.58±7.52 and the mean total score of the Breast Cancer Fatalism Scale was 2.00±2.07. It was found that as women’s health literacy increased, the level of fear and fatalism perception decreased and as the fear of breast cancer increased, the perception of fatalism increased. It is recommended to plan interventions that increase health literacy in women.
