Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this study is to investigate the need for a school health professional who can intervene in health-related problems that may be encountered in schools in order to carry out education and training activities effectively and healthily. Methods: The study used a case study design with 30 teachers and school administrators. Data were collected through a structured interview form, and descriptive analysis was applied. Results: The findings showed that participants frequently dealt with injuries, fainting, and bleeding in schools, felt unprepared for emergencies, believed student health affected academic success, and viewed having a school health professional as beneficial and necessary. Conclusion: Based on the research findings, it was concluded that all kinds of health problems could be encountered in schools and that teachers felt inadequate in intervening in these problems, and therefore health professionals were needed in schools.

Özet

Amaç: Bu araştırmanın amacı eğitim ve öğretim faaliyetlerinin etkin ve sağlıklı yürütülebilmesi için okullarda sağlıkla ilgili sorunlara müdahale edebilecek okul sağlık profesyoneline duyulan ihtiyacın araştırılmasıdır. Yöntem: Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olgubilim deseni tercih edilmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu toplam 30 öğretmen ve okul yöneticisi oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde ise betimsel analiz tercih edilmiştir. Bulgular: Çalışmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre katılımcılar; okullarda en sık yaralanma, bayılma, kanama gibi sağlık durumlarıyla karşılaştıkları, acil durumlarda kendilerini yeterli hissetmedikleri, öğrencilerin sağlıklı olması ile akademik başarının ilişkili olduğunu düşündükleri ve okullarda bir sağlık profesyonelinin olmasının hem faydalı hem de gerekli olduğunu düşündükleri görülmüştür. Sonuçlar: Araştırma bulgularından yola çıkarak okullarda her türlü sağlık sorunuyla karşılaşılabileceği ve bu sorunlara müdahale konusunda öğretmenlerin yetersiz hissettikleri bu yönde okullarda sağlık profesyonellerine ihtiyaç duyulduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
