Abstract

The discovery of the perceptions and views of X and Y generations against each other is the purpose of this study. In accordance with this purpose; the X-Belt academicians and Y-Gen students perceived their perception against each other and made a comparison. For this aim, as a means of data, “Teacher Perceptions of Generation Y Student Characteristics Scale” of Smith and Smith (2005) is applied to 68 academicians working at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Süleyman Demirel University who represent the X generation. For the study carried out for the generation Y students, the “Questionnaire on Teacher Interaction (QTI) scale” of Wubbels and Levy (1993) is applied to 6,766 students who study at the same faculty in the 2014-2015 period. According to the results of the study; while the generation X academicians have a negative perception about the general properties and learning proficiency of the generation Y students, they do not indicate a positive or negative tendency about the students’ features of work and communication. In contrast, the generation Y students’ perception about the generation X academics’ interaction with themselves is generally positive and while students, on the one hand, see the generation X academics as leader, helpful/friendly, considerate, determined, content and nonstimulating person, on the other hand they see them as strict and nonliberal person.
