Abstract

Systematic German studies within the higher education system began in Turkey in 1935. German departments, which have accumulated 90 years of experience since their establishment, are now spread across various regions of Turkey. They are capable of enrolling students at various academic levels, training or developing scholars, and supporting other academic disciplines. This study examines the development process and current status of Turkish German studies since the establishment of the first German department in the young republic as a result of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's revolutions and reforms. The aim of the study is to demonstrate, in a general framework, the dimensions that Turkish German studies have achieved in its 90th year.
