Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the acute effects of Kinesio tape application on hand grip strength, wrist muscle strength, and proprioception (joint position sense) in healthy individuals. Methods: Seventy-four healthy individuals aged 18-25 years participated in the study. Participants were randomly assigned to either the Kinesio Group (n=38) or the Placebo Group (n=36). Measurements were taken before application, 1 hour after application, and 24 hours after application. MicroFET 2 was used to measure wrist muscle strength, the Jamar hand dynamometer was used to measure grip strength, and a universal goniometer was used to measure proprioception. Results: No significant differences were found between the groups in terms of age and gender (p>0.05). Measurements taken at 1 and 24 hours post-application showed no statistically significant differences between groups or within groups for wrist muscle strength (flexion, extension, ulnar and radial deviation), hand grip strength, and proprioception parameters (p>0.05). Conclusion: The application of kinesiology tape was not found to have an acute performance-enhancing effect on hand function in healthy young adults.
