Abstract

In recent decades, wars and economic crises have forced millions to migrate, reshaping cultural dynamics worldwide. Turkey, adopting an open-door policy, has become increasingly multicultural, yet negative attitudes toward immigrants have risen. Research highlights that economic competition, cultural preservation concerns, and political polarization strongly influence these attitudes. Factors such as empathy, education, religiosity, conservatism, and media representation shape public perceptions of immigrants. While empathy and intercultural sensitivity foster acceptance and social harmony, conservative values and negative media portrayals often reinforce xenophobia. Education plays a critical role in reducing prejudice by enhancing critical thinking and cultural awareness. Overall, immigrant attitudes are determined by intertwined cultural, economic, and political variables, suggesting that sustainable social cohesion requires multidimensional strategies promoting empathy, cultural sensitivity, and inclusive communication. Keywords: migration, intercultural sensitivity, empathy, conservatism, media influence
