Abstract
Zinc oxide (ZnO) and electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO) nanostructures were synthesized on fluorine-doped oxide (FTO) using an electrochemical co-deposition method. This approach relies on the simultaneous reduction of GO and Zn²⁺ ions from an aqueous solution under ambient conditions without the use of specific reducing agents or other protective materials. The sequential ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method was used to modify the ERGO/ZnO nanostructures with QDs. In this method, the ERGO/ZnO-CdS/Bi₂S₃ photoanode electrode was fabricated by first decorating the electrode surface with CdS and then with Bi₂S₃. The characterization of the photoanodes was investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), UV-vis, Photoluminescence (PL), and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. In the presence of simulated sunlight the photoresponse of the ERGO/ZnO-CdS/Bi2S3 photoanode under demonstrated a performance of approximately 15.21 mA.cm-2. These results demonstrate that the prepared ERGO/ZnO-CdS/Bi2S3 photoanode has a good ability to harvest sunlight and exhibits rapid electron-hole pair separation, indicating that it is a promising photoanode for photoelectrochemical applications.
