Abstract

This study aims to examine the geriatric care and healthcare literature using bibliometric methods, focusing on the effects of demographic aging on healthcare systems. The research involved searching for English-language publications in the Scopus database between 2015 and 2026. The keywords used in the search were “geriatric care”, “elderly care”, “aged care”, “healthcare delivery”, and “health services”. Data were analyzed using Scopus analysis tools and the VOSviewer (1.6.20) program. A total of 4,869 publications were accessed. The findings indicate that the most common publication type in the literature is articles. Examining the distribution of publications by year, it was found that the number of publications was n=551 in 2015, followed by a generally fluctuating trend in publication numbers in subsequent years. The fluctuation observed in publication numbers from 2020 onwards suggests a slowdown in the growth rate of the literature and an unstable trend in publication output. Data for the 2024–2026 period is considered limited due to the indexing process. The study's distribution across countries revealed that research was conducted in 118 different countries. Australia ranked first with 1,120 publications, representing 23% of the total literature. Turkey was found to be in 30th place with 0.9% and 45 publications. According to subject area analysis, the majority of publications are concentrated in the field of Medicine (80.6%; n=3,925). Nursing (n=1,193) and Social Sciences (n=614) also made significant contributions. This indicates that geriatric care research has a multidisciplinary structure. Keyword analysis revealed high frequency of use for the terms “older people,” “older adults,” “health services for the aged,” and “dementia.” The findings suggest that the literature focuses particularly on health services for the elderly and dementia care. The findings reveal that the research area has a broad structure encompassing both clinical and service delivery dimensions. Accordingly, it is considered that future studies on health management, geriatric care services, and sustainable health policies will contribute to filling existing gaps in the literature and developing the field.

Anahtar kelime analizinde “older people” (yaşlı bireyler), “older adults” (yaşlı yetişkinler), “health services for the aged” (yaşlılara yönelik sağlık hizmetleri) ve “dementia” (demans) kavramlarının yüksek yoğunluğa sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir.
