Abstract

Pressure ulcers are a common care problem in pediatric patients, and their prevention depends largely on healthcare professionals’ knowledge and experience. This study aimed to evaluate pediatric nurses’ knowledge levels regarding pressure ulcers and identify influencing factors. A descriptive, cross-sectional design was used. The sample consisted of 109 pediatric nurses working in Turkey, selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected between August and December 2024 via an online survey including a Sociodemographic Information Form and the Pressure Ulcer Knowledge Assessment Tool (PUKAT 2.0-T). Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, and one-way ANOVA were used for analysis. The mean total PUKAT 2.0-T score was 7.44±3.23 (range: 0–25), indicating a low knowledge level. The highest scores were in prevention and etiology, while the lowest were in classification/observation and specific patient groups. Nurses who had received training and those with direct care experience had significantly higher scores (p<0.05). No significant differences were found by gender or years of experience; however, nurses aged ≤30 years scored higher in some sub-dimensions. The findings indicate insufficient knowledge among pediatric nurses, particularly in classification and specific patient groups. Structured training and clinical practice are essential to improve knowledge and patient safety.
