Abstract
The subject, one of the most vital concepts of modern Western thought, has been undergoing a radical transformation through neoliberal policies and ideological apparatuses. Homo Oeconomicus, which emerged as a result of this transformation and stands as the primary subject of neoliberalism, appears before us as the leading actor in today's depoliticized conception of politics, where the political sphere has been abandoned to the monopoly of technocrats and experts. For this reason, by addressing the constitutive effects of ideologies on the subject and the construction of the neoliberal subject shaped by market logic, this article attempts to establish the distinction between the classic political subject, homo politicus, and homo oeconomicus within a theoretical framework. At this point of stagnation, where politics is reduced to a rule-based market order and the masses are left without alternatives as a result of the institutional consensus forged by centrist parties, the study proceeds from the limitations of this transformed subject. In this context, the constitutive relationship between democracy and Jacques Derrida’s deconstructive approach, which reminds us that justice cannot be confined to concrete molds, is examined; drawing upon deconstruction's emphasis on "undecidability," the ground for pluralist politics is reformulated through the fact that irreconcilable conflicts (antagonism) can never be eradicated. Finally, the "populist moment," which expresses the rise of marginalized social demands against the democratic erosion caused by neoliberal globalization and economic crises, is addressed. In contrast to right-wing populism's promise to save democracy, the strategy of left-wing populism, which claims to keep the constitutive paradox between liberty and equality alive, is opened to discussion. Thereby, by touching upon the assertions regarding the rise of populist discourse, this study attempts to introduce philosophical and practical openings for an exit from the current depoliticized condition.
