Abstract

Studies on integrated reporting, which is the latest reporting model of corporate reporting, have been increasing recently. On the other hand, there is a gap in practice and literature regarding the assurance to be given to integrated reporting. There are various reasons for this situation, such as the standard setting institutions set different standards, and the measurement and evaluation of non-financial information is not as specific as financial ones. In this study, the integrated reports prepared in the financial sector in Turkey are evaluated in the context of assurance for non-financial information and by comparing them with the “award-winning” and “pioneering” integrated reports prepared in the financial sector in the world. It was determined that eight of the nine banks that provide integrated reporting in Turkey have limited assurance to audit the selected information. It has been concluded that the scope of assurance varies due to the fact that each company has its own reporting guide, and a comparable format can only be possible if the standard setters develop an assurance framework by acting jointly.
