Abstract

This Letter to the Editor discusses the study by Tekinalp and Demiray examining the effects of washing and wiping baths on skin hygiene and moisture–oil balance in intensive care unit patients from a fundamental care perspective. Bathing is considered not only a routine hygiene intervention but also an important nursing activity that contributes to maintaining skin integrity, promoting comfort, and supporting individualized care. Although technological and physiological priorities may dominate intensive care settings, critically ill patients continue to require assistance with fundamental care needs. Therefore, bathing practices should be recognized as an integral component of fundamental nursing care.
