Abstract
This study examines Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's K.381 four-hand piano sonata in piano education. Using a descriptive research model from qualitative research methods, data were obtained through document analysis and analyzed using content analysis. A review of the literature revealed no previous studies on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's K.381 four-hand piano sonata. Therefore, it was decided to examine this particular sonata. The three movements of the K.381 four-hand piano sonata were examined separately in terms of their formal characteristics and harmonic structures, and the findings are presented in tables. The results indicate that the first, second, and third movements are considered formally and harmonically within the framework of the classical sonata form. The analysis revealed that in all three movements, the exposition, development, and repetition sections are distinctly differentiated, and the main theme, secondary theme, and transitional elements are structured within a metrical and functional order. The tonal relationships between the movements, particularly the tonal contrasts established between the main and secondary themes, and the use of dominant, subdominant, and double dominant functions in the concluding bridges, reflect the fundamental principles of the classical sonata form. The transformation and processing of the thematic material in different tonal spaces during the development sections reveal the composer's emphasis on formal balance and integrity. The findings demonstrate that the relationship between form and harmony plays a decisive role in the interpretation of the work. Accordingly, it is concluded that this study contributes to the field of music analysis and theory and also serves as a pedagogical resource for students to develop analytical awareness in the performance process.
