Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine young people's awareness of sustainable online consumption across various dimensions. A qualitative research method was employed using semi-structured, face-to-face interview data with university students. Participants were asked a total of 14 open-ended questions, divided into four main sections, regarding their demographic characteristics, online shopping habits, and sustainability awareness. Interview content was categorized according to pre-determined themes through cross-coding. MAXQDA was used for data analysis. The research findings revealed that students struggled to define the concept of sustainability and lacked knowledge of the UN Sustainability Goals. The study concluded that a high number of students believed that e-commerce offered opportunities for individuals to access products and services, while some viewed product packaging as a significant environmental threat. Furthermore, participants believed that e-commerce should be viewed as an opportunity for small businesses and that it creates employment opportunities in the cargo and logistics sectors.
