Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the drug safety competencies of nursing students. The descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 160 nursing students studying at a state university. Data were collected using the Descriptive Information Form and the Medication Safety Competency Scale for Nurses and analyzed with SPSS. Descriptive statistics and t-test for independent samples were used to analyze the data. As a result of the study, it was determined that the average score of nursing students on the Medication Safety Competency Scale was 135.47±15.81. Participants' gender and adherence to right principles showed a positive significant relationship with medication safety competence, whereas previous medication error experience showed a negative significant relationship. In conclusion, it was found that most nursing students reported adhering to right principles, and that their medication safety competence was satisfactory.
