Abstract

The effects of key macroeconomic variables—such as economic growth, unemployment, and inflation—on health expenditures play a crucial role in shaping economic and social policies. Rising income levels enable individuals to allocate more resources to healthcare services, while also allowing governments to increase their investments in the health sector. From a macroeconomic perspective, high unemployment rates can lead to budgetary constraints, thereby reducing the public resources allocated to health spending. Inflation, on the other hand, significantly influences healthcare expenditures in terms of both cost and accessibility. This study aims to examine the effects of economic growth, unemployment, and inflation on health expenditures in G7 countries by employing panel data analysis using annual data from 2000 to 2021. The G7 countries were selected for the analysis as they are among the nations with the highest per capita health expenditures globally. According to the findings of the study, economic growth, unemployment, and inflation have statistically significant impacts on health expenditures. These results provide important insights for the formulation of economic and social policies and highlight the critical importance of macroeconomic stability in ensuring the sustainable increase of health spending.
