Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to determine the perceptions of middle school students about digital badges used in the Education Information Network (EBA/EIN) environment, to determine whether these perceptions differ according to gender and grade level and to reveal student views. The mixed method is used in the research. The study group consists of 420 students determined by stratified purposeful sampling method, from secondary schools in Sapanca District of Sakarya Province. In the data collection, a 14-question Likert-type questionnaire and a structured interview form with 5 questions are applied to 12 students. Quantitative data are resolved by SPSS statistical program, qualitative data are analyzed by “content analysis” method. According to the results of the research, the general perception of the students towards digital badges is positive and there is no significant difference according to gender. It is determined that the positive perceptions of the 8th grades differs lower at the grade level. Students welcome the use of digital badges online and by teachers in classrooms.
