Abstract
Purpose and Importance: The aim of this research is to determine the effect of empathetic behaviors exhibited by tour guides on the behavioral intentions of tourists during guided tours. It is aimed to contribute to both the sector and the literature by utilizing data obtained from tourists participating in guided tours in the Black Sea region. Methodology: Within the scope of the research, data was collected from 186 participants between January 15, 2025 and March 15, 2025 using the survey technique, one of the quantitative research methods. Validity and reliability analyses, as well as descriptive analyses, were conducted on the obtained data using a statistical analysis program. In the next stage, the research hypothesis was tested using a structural equation modeling program, and the findings were discussed. Findings: The research revealed that tour guides exhibited high levels of empathetic behavior, and tourists' behavioral intentions were quite high. Hypothesis testing concluded that the empathic behaviors displayed by tour guides had a 72% positive impact on tourists' behavioral intentions. Furthermore, the research results were supported by the results of similar studies. Originality/Value: This research is a pioneering study in the literature, as it identifies the relationship between empathetic behavior and behavioral intention variables and examines the effect of empathetic behavior on behavioral intention. In addition to its theoretical implications, it practically demonstrates the importance of empathetic behavior in tourist guiding and its impact on tourists. Limitations: The use of a survey as the data collection tool, the single-period data collection, the sample consisting solely of individuals who participated in guided tours in the Black Sea region, and the absence of direct studies on the subject in the literature constitute the main limitations of this research.
