Abstract

Introduction: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is one of the most performed surgical procedures today and there is a risk of post-operative infection. Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the nursing diagnoses and factors associated with infections after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Method: The descriptive study was conducted retrospectively with 79 patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy between September 2021 and September 2022 in a training and research hospital. Personal Information Form, Medical Characteristics Diagnosis Form and Nursing Diagnosis Evaluation Form were used as data collection tools. Results: The mean age of patients was 53.16 ± 13.62, and 60.8% were women. After surgery patients' Visual Analogue Scale pain mean was 3.49 ± 1.25 and the mean length of hospital stay was 3.49 ± 2.53 days. It was determined that 44.30% of the patients had a drain, 10.13% of them had hyperthermia, and 5.06% of them had an infection. It was found that the mean age of the patients with infection was statistically higher than those who did not (p < 0.05). A statistically significant difference was found between the patient's chronic disease and laboratory values with having an infection (p < 0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that factors such as old age and chronic disease may cause infection after laparoscopic cholecystectomy, and anxiety is the most used nursing diagnosis. Therefore, it is recommended to provide holistic and multidisciplinary health services to patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy before and after the surgery

Bulgular: Hastaların yaş ortalamaları 53,16 ± 13,62 yıl olup, %60,8’i kadındı.
