Abstract

ABSTRACT Purpose: This study was conducted to determine the psychosocial needs of personnel providing care services in nursing homes and to evaluate the effectiveness of the psychoeducation programme developed to address these needs. Method: The research is a pilot study conducted using a pre-test-post-test quasi-experimental design. The study was carried out between April 2022–July 2022 at a nursing home in Çankırı. The psychoeducational programme was structured according to the staff's pre-determined psychosocial needs and implemented in seven sessions. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale, the Psychological Well-Being Scale, and the Empathetic Tendencies Scale; descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test were used in the analyses. Findings: Fifteen nursing home staff members participated in the study. The average age of the participants was 38, and the majority were married (66.6%) and had a high school education. In the pre-test and post-test comparisons, it was found that the psychoeducation programme did not produce a statistically significant change in the scale scores. Conclusion: Although the psychoeducation programme was feasible in terms of implementation, the effect of short-term and limited-participation interventions was not measurable. Future studies should develop programmes that are long-term, include follow-up, and are supported by culturally appropriate assessment methods. Keywords: Elderly people, Care staff, Psycho-education
