Abstract

Aging and old age, as one of the most important social events of the last century, has shown its impact on a global scale, including Turkey. An increasingly aging population brings with it many problems. This situation increases the importance of gerontechnology targeting the elderly and elderly problems. Gerontechnology is a multidisciplinary field that combines gerontology and technology, which includes supportive devices and software systems to facilitate the lives of aging individuals. Gerontechnology deals with the ergonomic design of tools, equipment and technological supports that can be used by the elderly, based on the suggestion that sensory and perceptual losses, strength and movement losses in the aging process can be compensated. Artificial intelligence and gerontechnology are in an important relationship to improve the quality of life of elderly individuals and facilitate their access to healthcare services. AI-enabled devices and applications provide rapid intervention in emergency situations by continuously monitoring the health status of the elderly. In addition, thanks to artificial intelligence, personalized treatment plans can be created by analyzing the health data of elderly individuals. Virtual reality is a technology used to support the physical and mental health of the elderly. Especially for individuals with mental health problems such as dementia, virtual reality therapy methods can be of great benefit. The effective use of these technologies can provide a better response to the needs of the elderly population and make their lives more enjoyable and meaningful. In this article, the impact of artificial intelligence and virtual reality on gerontechnological methodology and the studies conducted in this field are examined.
