Abstract

Studies have been carried out under different flow conditions in the planning of wastewater pipe systems. In this context, computational fluid dynamics problems were created according to slope, flow velocity, cross-sectional properties, roughness, phase states and laminar/turbulent flow characteristics. In the study, numerical analyses were performed with two different CFD programs and program outputs were compared. A 20 m long pipeline was used in the comparison and velocity values at 15.m and pipe flow cross sections were utilized. Thus, it was ensured that the outputs of Star CCM+, which uses the finite volume method, and Ansys Fluent, which uses the finite element method, could be evaluated for the problem created under equal physical conditions. An egg section of 600mmx900mm was used for the pipeline and inlet velocities of V= 0.0014 m/s for laminar flow and V= 0.70 m/s and V= 2.00 m/s for turbulent flow. In the CFD program, volume of fluid, k-ε turbulence model for multiphase flow conditions were used to create appropriate models for the fluid. The compatibility of the results with each other, especially the flow velocity values give very similar results, which increases the reliability of the programs. The fact that the velocity values, velocity profiles and flow properties obtained according to the flow conditions in different phases are close to each other reveals the accuracy of the analysis values of CFD programs.
