Abstract

Cities face many challenges, especially in relation to human mobility and land use structure. Parking lot management, which establishes the connection between land use and transportation, is one of the most important ways to cope with these challenges. Parking is an important element of both local and strategic planning. Parking lot policy and supply play an important role in the management of transportation systems in urban areas. Policies regulating the provision and operation of parking facilities have a significant impact on the functioning of urban transportation systems. Therefore, making plans and taking necessary precautions without analyzing the current situation of parking lots is often insufficient and does not go beyond the point of temporary solutions. In this study, the current situation of parking lots in Rize city center was analyzed. The obtained data and examinations showed that roadside parking lots are heavily preferred in Rize city center. However, in the presence of insufficient off-road parking lots, it is revealed that the negative aspects of roadside parking lots should be considered in the transportation planning of the city in addition to their positive aspects. It is thought that with the establishment of smart transportation systems in the city center, drivers will have easier access to parking lots and parking lots will be used more effectively.
