Abstract

This article focuses on the posthuman turn in the evolving ways of creating and thinking about art today. It concretizes this shift within the framework of Sinem Dişli’s 2023 exhibition Deep Time at Martch Art Project. The aim of the article is to engage with the essence of contemporary art using posthuman and new materialist theories, as well as post-qualitative research, while reopening the discussion on the role and potential of art and the artist. In this direction, through subheadings such as “The Historical Break in the Pattern of Aesthetics,” “Towards a New Methodology: Postqualitative Research,” and “Aesthetic Paradigm Shift: The Nonhuman Other,” the article grounds the inclination of art towards a posthuman epistemology. In the section analyzing Deep Time: The Faces of Matter, the facets of this new tendency are made visible. The article also suggests that the essence of contemporary art is a posthuman quest for new imagery.
