Abstract
Academic studies in the field of maritime affairs contribute scientifically to the safe, efficient, and sustainable management of maritime transportation, which forms the backbone of global trade. Topics such as energy efficiency, emission reduction, port management, safety, and risk analysis directly influence strategic decision-making processes in the sector. Due to the presence of uncertainty, multi-criteria structures, and diverse stakeholder expectations, Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methods are frequently employed in these studies. Approaches such as AHP, ANP, TOPSIS, VIKOR, PROMETHEE, DEMATEL, and ELECTRE enable systematic and objective analysis of complex problems such as cargo operations, accident causes, performance measurement, and alternative selection. Within this context, the aim of the study is to examine the MCDM methods used in scientific research conducted in the maritime field through bibliometric and systematic literature analysis. For this purpose, articles published in 2025 in the Web of Science (WoS) database that apply MCDM techniques in maritime-related studies were analyzed according to their topic (purpose-content), the MCDM technique used, publication year, and authors’ countries. The findings revealed that the most preferred MCDM techniques were AHP, TOPSIS, and DEMATEL, respectively. Additionally, the most frequently studied subjects in the maritime field were ship operations and ports, while the countries contributing the most were China, Türkiye, and South Korea. The results obtained demonstrate which analytical techniques yield more effective outcomes in achieving sustainability and operational efficiency goals in maritime transportation, thereby contributing to the grounding of sectoral strategies on scientific foundations.
