Abstract

Emotions such as happiness, anxiety, or fear shape individuals' investment preferences. The stress generated by the effort to reach the right decision in situations of uncertainty misdirects individuals into systematic errors, thereby demonstrating the impact of behavioral finance on markets. Along with digitalization, social media platforms are altering how investors acquire information. Information asymmetry in the digital ecosystem creates information inequality among investors, while this inequality leads to an information gap. Investors' emotional states can cause fluctuations in asset prices by affecting their risk perceptions and decision-making processes. As a result of panic investing behavior arising from the need for control, it is observed that collective investor sentiment can directly influence the pricing processes of financial assets. Accordingly, this study aims to examine the impact of digitalized markets on investor sentiment and panic investing from the perspectives of information asymmetry and social media. The study adopts a literature review methodology. Although previous studies have demonstrated the effect of social media sentiment on panic investing, a theoretical gap remains regarding how digital information asymmetry triggers investor sentiment and panic investing. Therefore, this research distinguishes itself from other studies by explaining the effects of digital information asymmetry and social media on investor sentiment and panic investing.
