Abstract
This study was conducted during the autumn–winter period in a mushroom growing room with the aim of determining the effects of mycorrhizal fungi on morphological development, yield, and quality in white button mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) cultivation, as well as identifying the most effective application dose. Mushroom production was carried out in polyethylene bags containing spawn-inoculated compost obtained from a commercial mushroom enterprise. The experiment included three doses of ERS (Endo Root Soluble, Bioglobal) mycorrhiza (Glomus spp.) [recommended dose (D, 1 g L⁻¹), half of the recommended dose (D/2, 0.5 g L⁻¹), double the recommended dose (Dx2, 2 g L⁻¹), and triple the recommended dose (Dx3, 3 g L⁻¹)], along with a non-mycorrhizal control treatment. The mycorrhiza was applied to the casing soil, and the prepared casing layers were spread over the compost-filled bags. Production lasted a total of 70 days, during which three flushes were harvested before termination of the experiment. Yield, quality parameters, and nutrient element uptake were evaluated. The results indicated that the highest bag yield was obtained from the first flush; as the number of flushes increased, yield decreased while the proportion of unmarketable carpophores increased. Although no significant differences were observed among treatments in terms of total and marketable carpophore weight and number, mycorrhizal application increased the average weight of marketable carpophores. Mycorrhiza application exerted positive effects on quality parameters, resulting in reduced cap opening and increased dry matter content, firmness, and vitamin C levels. Although differences in nutrient element content due to mycorrhizal application were not statistically significant, an increasing trend was observed. Overall, the addition of mycorrhiza to the casing soil in white button mushroom cultivation exhibited a positive tendency. Among the treatments, the Dx2 mycorrhiza dose produced beneficial effects comparable to those of the Dx3 dose. Considering its lower input cost, the Dx2 dose may be regarded as a more feasible option and a promising biological application for commercial mushroom production.
