Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine fathers' support for breastfeeding and to reveal the factors affecting it. Methods: The study was conducted between 20 March and 20 April 2025 in a state hospital in Central Anatolia with 150 fathers with actively breastfed infants. The data were collected face-to-face using the Descriptive Characteristics Form and the Father Support in Breastfeeding Scale. In the evaluation of the data, number, percentage, mean and standard deviation, parametric tests were used according to normality evaluation. Significance level p<0.05 was accepted. Results: In the study, it was determined that the increase in fathers' level of education, receiving breastfeeding training, having a history of breastfeeding children and having a planned pregnancy were factors that positively affected support for breastfeeding. It was determined that increasing the number of children could reduce fathers' breastfeeding support (p<0.05). Conclusion: It is recommended that fathers should be empowered in terms of breastfeeding starting from the prenatal period, especially fathers whose education level is below bachelor's degree, who have more children and who do not have breastfeeding experience and education.
