Abstract

Objective: This study aims to present the planned protocol for an 8-session laughter yoga-based empowerment training program for mothers of children with special needs, investigating its effects on caregiver burden, positive mental health, perceived stress levels, and salivary cortisol levels in these mothers. Method: This study will be conducted using a randomized controlled experimental design where pre- and post-intervention measurements are compared by randomly assigning participants to different groups. The study population consists of 134 mothers of children receiving education at a private rehabilitation center in Konya. The sample consists of 40 mothers. Participants in the intervention group will receive eight sessions of mental health strengthening training, while participants in the control group will not receive any intervention. Pre-test and post-test data will be collected from participants before and after the research process. In addition, saliva samples will be collected simultaneously from participants in both the experimental and control groups before and after each session. The Personal Information Form, the Zarit Caregiver Burden Scale, the Positive Mental Health Scale, and the Perceived Stress Scale will be used to collect data. Data will be evaluated using the SPSS 22 software package, and statistical significance will be accepted at p<0.05. Findings: Findings will be shared after the study data have been collected and analyzed. Conclusion and Recommendations: This study is considered to be an important nursing intervention that will strengthen the mental health of mothers with children with special needs.
