Abstract

A major urban renewal movement has been initiated in Turkey with the aim of renewing 8 million dwellings. In this study, the relationship between the built environment design and the economic, environmental, and social dimensions of sustainability has been examined. The elements of built environment design were identified with a comprehensive literature study. With a questionnaire survey applied to 323 experts, the importance of these elements in terms of economic, environmental and social sustainability dimensions were determined. How the relation emerged with sustainability and the most important elements in each dimension was discussed in detail. It was also investigated, whether there were significant differences between assessments according to different characteristics of the participants. It is evaluated that the results will lead to the stakeholders of urban renewal in the direction of creating livable cities
