The most influential institutions contributing to the field are Rosen College of Hospitality Management, University of Oxford Medical Sciences, and Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave. The most frequently cited studies focus on themes such as destination management, ethical dimensions, and customer satisfaction. At the country level, the United States, the United Kingdom, China, India, Türkiye, and Australia were identified as the most influential countries in terms of citation and publication impact. The findings indicate that the health tourism literature is evolving along the axes of digitalization, AI-supported marketing, and sustainability. In this context, the study provides a comprehensive overview of research trends in health tourism and identifies thematic gaps and potential collaboration areas that may guide future research.
