Abstract

This study aims to forecast Türkiye’s air cargo traffic for the 2026–2030 period using annual data covering the years 2002–2024. Considering the annual frequency and limited sample size of the dataset, the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) methodology was employed to ensure methodological consistency and reliability. The stationarity properties of the series were examined using the Augmented Dickey–Fuller (ADF) test, and appropriate differencing was applied to achieve stationarity while accounting for structural breaks. Based on the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), the ARIMA(2,1,0) model was identified as the most suitable specification, and diagnostic tests confirmed that the residuals do not exhibit autocorrelation and satisfy the white noise assumption. The forecasting performance of the model was evaluated using out-of-sample validation, and the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) was calculated as 3.8%, indicating a high level of predictive accuracy. The findings suggest that Türkiye’s air cargo traffic is expected to maintain a stable growth trend, with an average annual increase of approximately 2.7% until 2030. The results provide empirical evidence to support strategic planning and capacity management decisions in the aviation and logistics sectors.
