Abstract

Objective: The multidisciplinary model of physiotherapy and rehabilitation services, which is an important part of health services, plays an important role in increasing the efficiency of the health services provided. It is considered that the level of awareness of physiotherapy and rehabilitation among health professionals will contribute to this process. This study was planned to determine the level of physiotherapy and rehabilitation awareness of non-physiotherapy and rehabilitation health sciences students who constitute rehabilitation team members. Material and Methods: A form designed to determine the physiotherapy and rehabilitation awareness level of health sciences students (Nutrition and Dietetics, Health Management, Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, and Social Work Department), who met the inclusion criteria was administered online. Results: The study included 605 participants (mean age 21.23±3.06 years). It was determined that 81.8% of the health sciences students were aware of the concept of physiotherapy and rehabilitation and the most common source of information was family, friends and relatives. It was determined that orthopedic rehabilitation and sports health were the most common fields of profession of physiotherapists and the most common physiotherapy treatment modalities were exercise, massage and hot-cold applications. It was determined that health sciences students had the opinions that physiotherapists are not only involved in rehabilitation (72.9%), that the health service provided contributes to the healing process (71.1%) and that physiotherapists can take part in research (65.1%). Conclusion: It was determined that health sciences students do not have sufficient knowledge about the working areas, duties, and responsibilities of physiotherapists. In order to strengthen the multidisciplinary team understanding, adding content related to the duties and responsibilities of physiotherapist to the curricula of departments operating in health sciences will increase the quality of health services to be provided by graduates.
